Information on Swine Flu

Some general information on Swine Flu;

Vulnerable groups
If you are in one of the following groups you are at increased risk of severe complications from flu. If you start to feel unwell, you should seek medical advice straight away, if nothing else it may give you peace of mind.
  • Pregnant women
  • The very overweight – those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 40
  • People with chronic illnesses such as heart disease, renal disease, respiratory disease such as chronic obstructive airways disease (COAD), asthma requiring ongoing treatment, diabetes
  • People who are taking medication or having treatment which reduces their immunity to infection  
Help stop the spread
  • Wash your hands often
  • Wipe over frequently touched surfaces 
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Stay at home if you are ill
  • If you are concerned about your health then contact your doctor
  • Get a flu shot, it won’t protect you from swine flu but will provide you with protection from seasonal flu strains in the community
